Gabriel & The Lunatic Lover

MARC ALMOND with MICHAEL CASHMORE (Soft Cell & Nature and Organisation)

Mini CD Digipack (DURTRO / JNANA 005) - DURTRO / JNANA

This EP sets to music two poems by the 19th-century gay writer Count Stanislaus Eric Stenbock.

This first release, in what will be a series of collaborative releases by Marc Almond and Michael Cashmore, sets to music two poems by Count Stanislaus Eric Stenbock — the extraordinary 19th-century gay writer whose bizarre life of decadence, drug-addiction, alcoholism, poetry coupled with Satanic, vampiric, Catholic and paederastic obsessions led to his early death at the age of 36 in 1895. His final years, it is said, saw Stenbock accompanied everywhere by a life-size wooden doll that he called "le petit comte" and which he believed to be his son.
Vocals from the legendary Marc Almond, with all of the music composed and played by Michael Cashmore, who is well-known known from his extensive catalogue of recordings with Current 93, Nature & Organisation and as a solo artist and collaborator, recently working with Antony as vocalist on Michael's previous release.
This 2-track CD is housed in a beautiful full-colour digipak, containing previously unpublished paintings of Marc by Russian artist Vania Soutavliov, a rare photograph of the enigmatic Count, as well as the complete texts to the poems and all credits.
